Again Sanders provides object lesson in riding Brighton

Seb Sanders, leading rider here last year with 12 winners, took his score for the year to 17 following another excellent double. With the opportunity to ride at three more meetings this season, he is six winners short of Richard Quinn's record breaking course tally of 23 set in 1999.

Third overall in the Jockeys Championship title race behind Kieren Fallon and Richard Hughes, Sanders joins Quinn, Willie Carson, and Lester Piggott as a rider who provides an object lesson on how to ride an exceedingly tricky track.

Seb's first win on the day came courtesy of Royal Approval (John Dunlop) who led on the line to come out on top in a three-way photo to the 1m2f handicap. The Arundel colt just denied Shirley Collins, the 6/1 favourite, and Fife And Drum. Spymaster, who finished best of all, was fourth.

The much-travelled nine-year-old Soaked (David Chapman) provided Sanders with his second winner in the 5f classified dash. On his 110th racecourse appearance, Soaked made all to foil a gamble on Speedy Gee (Dandy Nicholls), his fellow northern challenger.
